    PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

    Dear Atkinson Parents,

Thank you so much for the treats, meals, flowers, and cards of appreciation that our staff received this week during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. Your expressions of gratitude and support really made our week!

Today was the 2023–24 Run for Atkinson. Students ran mightily and enjoyed their post run popsicle delivered by Atkinson's cool Cheetah cat (aka, Ms. Katie)! We are ever closer to our goal—as of last night, we had raised just over $11,000. We are still hoping to raise another $6,000 to cover the cost of a full time office secretary position. Please have sponsors fulfill their pledge with a credit or debit card ONLINE at The Fund for 皇家华人 Public Schools by Friday, May 17. Go to , use the "Donate to a Specific School or Program" button, and then use the "Purpose" menu to select Atkinson Elementary School. Let's get Ms. Katie to full time at Atkinson!

We still have 24 days of learning left. Please be sure to send your healthy child to school every day and take a look at the end of this letter for some dates and times of special events and end of year celebrations.

  • PPS Senior Program Manager of Energy & Sustainability Invited to White House Summit

When Aaron Presberg first got the email from the White House, he thought it was some sort of prank.

Then he shared the message with a few colleagues who assured him that it was no joke, and the exciting reality that he had been invited to Washington, D.C. to present at the White House’s first-ever Summit for Sustainable and Healthy K–12 School Buildings and Grounds started to sink in.

  • West Sylvan Eighth Grader Wields a Mighty Pen

Even as a small child, Miranda Yesser possessed a keen understanding of the mercenary nature of the publishing industry.

According to her one-page, tongue-in-cheek author bio, which hangs on a clothesline in English teacher Dr. Holly Graham’s colorful classroom, “Yesser began writing books at a young age, then trying to sell them to her family for 5 dollars a copy.”

It might be time to scoop those copies up. Miranda recently received honorable mention in the annual for her short story, “.”

  • The Arts Tax in Action: The HeART of 皇家华人 is Still Beating

Students who took their first steps into PPS kindergarten classrooms in 2014 – the year 皇家华人’s first-ever arts education tax went into effect – are now thriving sophomores.

Evan Sampson is one of those sophomores, and he will have a chance to share his story at this year’s HeART of 皇家华人, a showcase spotlighting the artistic accomplishments of some PPS’s most talented students.

The two-week celebration of creativity will take place from April 16-28 at the 皇家华人 Art Museum. All exhibits and performances are free and open to the public.
