  • 2024-25 FOCUS OPTION LOTTERY INFORMATION

    The 2024-25 Middle School (grades 6-8) Focus Option Lottery window is now open!
    The Middle School (grades 6-8) Focus Option Lottery window opened on November 15, 2023 and will be closing on December 22, 2023. 
     
    The Elementary School (grades K-5) Focus Option Lottery window will be opening on February 15, 2024 and closing on March 15, 2024.  
     
    We will be holding informational meetings for the Middle School (grades 6-8) Focus Option Lottery in November and December.
     
    The informational meetings for the Elementary School (grades K-5) Focus Option Lottery will be in February and/or March.  Please check back here in mid-January to see the exact dates for the Elementary School (grades K-5) Focus Option Lottery informational meetings.
     
    Here are the dates and times for the Middle School (grades 6-8) Focus Option Lottery informational meetings:
     
    Thursday, November 30 - 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
    Thursday, December 7 - 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm
     
    While attendance is NOT required at the informational meetings to be eligible for the lottery, we STRONGLY encourage students and their families to attend one of the Middle School (grades 6-8) Focus Option Lottery meetings to learn about our school and to be able to make the best decision about which school the student wants to attend for middle school.

    To apply to Winterhaven, applicants need to complete the Enrollment and Transfer's Focus Option Lottery Application once the lottery window opens.  Information on how to complete the application is online and can be found here: /Page/2343
     
    The Enrollment and Transfer website contains great information for families interested in applying to a focus option school.  We encourage families to read through this information and if they have questions, please contact our main office - 503-916-6200.

    Harrison Park, which transitioned from a K-8 to a middle school this fall, recently held a school-wide vote for a new mascot. According to Principal Leah Dickey, these first few months as a middle school have been pivotal for students as they navigate the new exciting normal and establish an identity as a school and community. Picking a mascot has been an important part of that journey.

    Principal Phu Dao is many things to the students and staff of Roseway Heights Middle School: mentor, role model, champion, friend. Ask anyone who has learned from and 皇家华人ed with him and they will tell you that he has dedicated his entire career to advocating for students, families, and educators. And now he’s being honored for that dedication.

    Courageous Conversation, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit that 皇家华人s with individuals and institutions to address racial disparities through sustained, fruitful dialogue, has named Principal Dao this year’s recipient of the Dr. Charles Hopson Racial Equity Principal Leadership Award.

  • Welcome to Winterhaven!  Winterhaven is a Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math (STEAM) focus option school.  We have a diverse learning environment in which its members are committed to meeting the educational, social, emotional and physical needs of all students in accordance with current practices, regardless of background or ability. This environment will stress academic excellence in a context of cultural enrichment and competency as well as community involvement. All stakeholders - students, staff and community - will feel valued and involved in the learning process.
