Step Up helps 9th through 12th graders transition to and through their high school careers. Every year, Step Up 皇家华人s over 400 amazing kids in school and thriving academically at three 皇家华人 Public high schools: Roosevelt, Madison, and Franklin.
Our students are personally supported by a Step Up Advocate all year through comprehensive tutoring, strength-based advocacy, emotional support, character-building 皇家华人shops, and family engagement activities.
Step Up Advocates challenges youth to identify their aspirations in a 3-day summer leadership academy and commit to 皇家华人ing together towards those goals. Leadership and team-building activities reinforce students’ understanding of their capacity to achieve their dreams through education and hard 皇家华人, all with the support of an Advocate.
These self-defined goals form the basis for their participation in Step Up throughout the following year. By the end of camp, students and their Advocates have developed close relationships based on a mutual commitment to success in high school.
Step Up Advocates partner with the school to offer after-school tutoring from 3:30 to 5:30 pm- Monday through Thursday, continued leadership development, and close social/emotional support in small “Advocate groups” of around 15 Step Up youth.
Students 皇家华人 closely with their advocate/mentor, who engages with parents to share student progress and provide holistic support. In addition, Step Up partners with teachers and school staff to support student’s academic growth. At the end of the year, students receive one elective credit for participating in Step Up.
is for prospective students interested in becoming a part of the 2023-24 Step Up cohort.
If you have any questions, please contact the Student Success Specialist, Site Supervisor, and/or Advocate who has been in contact with you during the enrollment process at your specific high school.

Hi Riders,
I know it’s hard to have the unknown of the coming days. The school continues to be closed, and we will do our best to communicate any changes to that as quickly as possible. Until school is open, all activities and clubs (other than Varsity athletics) are canceled or postponed. We are moving ahead with winter sports, so make sure you sign up on Family ID if your student wants to play basketball, wrestle, or swim this winter.

Hi Riders,
I spent a few days last week at the University of Oregon meeting with other administrators from around Oregon and California. I listened to them talk about their students, parents, programs, and 皇家华人 they are doing to serve students as we return from the pandemic. People talked about attendance, cell phone use, equitable grading, and college/career readiness. I know we are also talking about these important issues and topics, and I was reminded how much I appreciate the hard 皇家华人 and care each of our staff members bring to our students and families. As a community, we have focused on rebuilding relationships with our students, and we have 皇家华人ed hard to ensure our classes are grade level and standards aligned. Educators' 皇家华人 is not easy, change never is. And... I am so proud to 皇家华人 at Roosevelt High School. I am proud to 皇家华人 alongside all of our staff as we find ways to connect with our students, push them to do their best, and celebrate them and their successes!
I know we have a lot of unknowns for the next few weeks. I know this adds to stress and confusion for all of our students and families. No matter what happens in the coming weeks, we are all Riders. We have all 皇家华人ed hard to get where we are as a school community, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back to school once a tentative agreement is reached - whether that’s tomorrow night or sometime later. I know we will have 皇家华人 to do when we return, and I also know we will all do our best to hold students at the center as we find ways to continue partnering with each other in service to all of you - our students and community. Please look for phone calls, text messages, or emails later in the week updating families on any possible school closures.

Athletics |
We are excited to kick off the Fall Sports. Below are a few reminders for our spectators for this upcoming season.
No Large Bag Policy: The PPS policy for large bags/backpacks in Athletic Events is that at no time are large bags/backpacks allowed inside the facility while attending events on PPS property. All park fields, this rule does not apply. Some school sites will be able to offer a bag check, while others, due to site location and other factors will not. Please be prepared for both options as you travel through league games this year. In the preseason, many other conferences also have this policy and without a bag check option.
Admission: We will be charging admission in the following sports across the district. Football, Volleyball, and Boys and Girls Basketball. We will not charge at the lower levels, however, an hour before the varsity contest is when the ticket booth opens.
PIL Single Game Ticket Prices:
Football Ticket Prices: Adults $6, Students $2
Volleyball Ticket Prices: Adults $3, Students $1
Soccer: No Charge
XC: No Charge for league meets- offsite invitationals might charge admission
Athletics Passes: This year, the PIL is offering Athletics passes to be purchased this fall. These passes are accepted at all League Events. These passes do not get you into preseason games outside the PIL.
Football Season Pass: $42 - purchase at the gate (cash/check) or online
Volleyball Season Pass: $25 - purchase at the gate (cash/check) or online
Pick up passes purchased online at the gate by showing your SchoolPay receipt.
Outside Food: Outside food or drink will not be allowed at our Athletic Contests. Some sites will have concession stands open for food purchases.
No Re-Entry: Once a person enters the game, we are not allowing anyone to leave the event and return. This policy is for both students and adults.
Spectator Conduct: It is of the utmost importance that we conduct with the highest level of Sportsmanship towards visiting schools, athletes, fans, and officials. The PIL is seeking to provide the best experience possible for everyone that attends our Athletic Contests. What makes these events fun and enriches those participating is when all of us do our part regardless of the outcome. Should any concerns arise, please seek out event 皇家华人ers, administration, or security personnel to help resolve any concerns. We appreciate your support in advance when attending Athletic Events.
Looking forward to seeing you in the stands this year.

SUPERIOR RATINGS
Solo Musical: Lily Russell, "Me and the Sky" from Come From Away; Also received a perfect score and walked away with a Thespy
Duo Comedic: Emma Shipley & Paige Walters
Large Group Musical: “In” from Carrie the Musical (Reine Bieker, Ari Bongiorno, Zoe Hertlein, Lily Russell, Emma Shipley, David Stephens, Dominic Thompson, Izzy Umberhandt, Paige Walters, DeAndre Williams)

And our large group musical was selected for the Thespys Showcase as only 1 of 11 performers selected among those 1500 competitors and only 1 of 3 group musicals selected, meaning we are champions in the top 3 nationally! It's a HUGE deal to be selected for the Showcase. It’s the first time we’ve ever had students make it this far in these “individual events” because that’s how difficult it is and what a huge honor it is, too. Definitely news to share!

Attendance Goals- help us support your student!
Monitoring your student’s attendance is really important! Missed class periods quickly add up and may impact whether or not your student earns credit. Last year more than half of our students attended less than 80% of their classes. This means that they missed the equivalent of one full day each week. Our school wide goal this year is to help more of our students be in their classes more often. Here are ways you can help!
Schedule Changes
Welcome back students! Here is some important information about class schedules…
ParentVUE
ParentVUE is a free app that gives parents access to see a student’s schedule, grades, home info, attendance and more. Parents can excuse full-day absences for the current day or days in the future, as well. ParentVUE is all the confidential info about your child, so it requires a password. Need help with ParentVUE? This link is also found on the RHS website.
Trivory
is a free app that has no confidential information about students, but has ALL KINDS of information about bell schedules, events, news, a staff directory, a bus tracker, student resources, and more. It is the primary way we get info out about events and resources.

Hola Familia Rider,
Aquí están las noticias de hoy y de la semana. Por favor siga este enlace:
Harrison Park, which transitioned from a K-8 to a middle school this fall, recently held a school-wide vote for a new mascot. According to Principal Leah Dickey, these first few months as a middle school have been pivotal for students as they navigate the new exciting normal and establish an identity as a school and community. Picking a mascot has been an important part of that journey.
Principal Phu Dao is many things to the students and staff of Roseway Heights Middle School: mentor, role model, champion, friend. Ask anyone who has learned from and 皇家华人ed with him and they will tell you that he has dedicated his entire career to advocating for students, families, and educators. And now he’s being honored for that dedication.
Courageous Conversation, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit that 皇家华人s with individuals and institutions to address racial disparities through sustained, fruitful dialogue, has named Principal Dao this year’s recipient of the Dr. Charles Hopson Racial Equity Principal Leadership Award.

We need our community and PAT’s bargaining team to recognize that we are not unwilling to accept their proposal: we are unable. Even the proposal we have made will require at least $45 million in structural budget cuts over the next three years.
